Check goods and route compatibility
Import requirements depend on the destination and product type. Confirm that the selected line accepts every item, including liquids or fragrances where relevant. A route available for clothing may not accept perfume. Use the shipping comparison guide to record route restrictions alongside the quote.
A route name or another buyer’s successful delivery does not establish admissibility or charges for your parcel.
Keep a usable parcel record
- Product descriptions and quantities matching the actual contents.
- Selected options, invoice or order record and actual payment evidence.
- Tracking number, shipping line and recipient details.
- Any requested declaration or clearance documents.
Use accurate values and descriptions. Do not copy a low value or generic description from a community post. If a form is unclear, resolve the required fields with the relevant service before submission.
Separate freight from import charges
| Charge | What to establish |
|---|---|
| International freight | The shipping line, parcel measurements and services covered by the paid amount. |
| Import tax or duty | Destination-specific treatment of the goods and how any amount due is collected. |
| Clearance or handling fee | Whether the carrier charges separately for processing or collecting import payments. |
The full cost guide helps you keep these amounts separate. Avoid assuming a universal tax rate, exemption or tax-inclusive service.
Handle a clearance request
Match the notice to the tracking number and verify it with the carrier or customs service. Check the requested documents, amount and response deadline. Send relevant records through the verified channel and retain receipts.
If the parcel is held, ask what action is outstanding. Unresolved clearance can lead to a return and additional transport charges. Follow the returned parcel checks if a return has already started.
