Make a reference you can reuse

Choose a similar item that fits the way you want the new one to fit. Lay clothing flat without stretching it and record the measurements in centimetres. Use the same start and end points as the listing chart. An oversized hoodie and a fitted T-shirt need different reference fits.

Keep the chart for the exact listing and version. The product link checks help prevent comparing a chart from a different item.

Compare the measurements that shape the fit

Useful measurement comparisons

Tops and hoodiesChest width, shoulder width, body length, sleeve lengthA flat chest width differs from full chest circumference. Check how raglan sleeves are measured.
Pants and shortsWaist, rise, inseam, thigh and leg openingCheck relaxed versus stretched waist measurements and whether length includes the waistband.
Jackets and down jacketsChest, shoulders, length and sleevesLeave room for the layers you intend to wear; use the listing’s measurement method.
ShoesThe chart’s size system and stated length measurementFoot, insole and outsole lengths are different measurements.

Use numbers rather than a familiar label

A size label alone does not establish the cut. For example, if your reference top measures 56 cm across the chest and a listing shows 54 cm, the listed garment is 2 cm narrower across that flat measurement. That is a comparison, not a recommendation to choose a particular size.

If the chart uses circumference, compare circumference. Do not double a number unless it is explicitly a flat width. Allow only for the measurement tolerance actually stated by the seller.

Request a measurement when it matters

Example measurement request

For item [number], size [option], please lay the garment flat and photograph the tape across [chest/waist/length]. Please show both measurement endpoints and use centimetres.

Use the QC guide to check the tape position and selected size label. A photo can support a measurement comparison, but comfort remains individual.

Resolve a mismatch before dispatch

Compare the actual measurement with the selected option and any stated tolerance. If the wrong size arrived or the difference is material, preserve the photos and packaging and check return eligibility and timing while the item can still be assessed.
